About me

Hi, I'm Hongwah and I am born in the Netherlands. Currently I am considering to retire early in Malaysia with my MM2H visa. Therefore I'm traveling between Kuala Lumpur and the Netherlands, staying (at least) 6 months in KL in the coming three years (2026-2028) to see if it is really a good idea to retire in MY as from 2028.

I don't know anyone in KL yet (except from my MM2H agent, real estate agent, lawyer etc. 😅 ). However, to feel somewhere at home, it is not only about finding the right area, apartment, restaurant, cinema, shopping mall, supermarket etc. Most important is meeting new people, friends and maybe finding someone to have a more meaningful relationship with.

I like watching movies(*) , TV series, going to theater (musicals, concerts, circus, dance etc.), reading books etc. I am a total nerd, and I like to have things planned and organized in spreadsheets. But I am also flexible, able to adjust to new situations and I believe that if life deals me bad cards, I should play it as best as possible and there will be new cards with new chances. I like to believe that there are more colors than only black and white. Life will have more depth and color if we are really willing to open our eyes and see beyond what we are used to.

(*) I'm also an executive movie producer of the full length documentary movie "Meer dan Babi Pangang", which competed at the Dutch International Film Festival 2025, and it just premiered in the Dutch cinemas at 17 February 2026. 😋

Hopefully you're someone who likes to meet a new friend and make me feel more at home in Malaysia. 😊

If we can speak English or Cantonese, it would be great. Otherwise I hope you have a lot of humor and we'll just try, laugh a lot, and make the best of it! But to be honest, I think it is important to be able to communicate well, be open about your feelings and needs, so we can understand each other better and hopefully be good for each other. Kindness and a good humor are more important for me than good looks.
